Estill's Defeat

Monk Estill was a slave working on his Apple Orchard at Estill Station. Like most early settlements the early settlers had conflict with local Indians. This stations story was no different. This story starts with the kidnapping of Monk and the Murder of a girl named Jenny Gass. Monk was interrogated upon his capture and was able to persuade the war party of Wyandot Indians that the defenseless station was in fact armed to the teeth. This delayed the Wyandots attack long enough for Captain James Estill and his hunting party of 40 men to show up and attack the Wyandot camp. The attack gave Monk the opportunity to escape. Once freed, Monk found Captain James Estill on the battlefield who then put him incharge of the parties horses. The battle ends messy. Captain James Estill is killed and his men are in retreat. Monk then does the heroic deed of saving one of the injured mens' life. Monk carried James Berry twenty five miles back to the station.
